When shipping prices increased substantially, she switched to clothing in 2008. Now carrying women clothing and accessories, Khati offers a variety of fabrics such as cotton, linen and silk from India, Nepal, Thailand and Italy. Always having wanted to work for herself and have her own business, Khati made the desired change after working for a nursing home for ten years. Investing $500 in products, she started vending at the Market and her business immediately took off. Loving the fast-paced environment of retail and the opportunity to connect with friendly customers as well as her initial success, all verified her decision to launch her own business. Her advice to anyone who wants to start their own business is to start small and local. “I encourage others to start at the Market if they’re trying to open a small business, I’ve seen many people grow very large in a short period of time.” Curating lasting relationships with customers, Khati loves having conversations and visiting with repeat customers, some every single week!
