We are sad to share that our beloved vendor, Harvey Gardinier, passed away. Described as "the sweetest keeper of bees", Harvey was the proud owner of CNY Honey Produce. He started beekeeping in 1985 and has enjoyed it ever since. Amongst our staff, fellow vendors, and long-time customers, he will be deeply missed. Honoring his legacy, Harvey's family will continue vending at the Market.

Harvey Gardiner, owner of CNY Honey Produce, knew his way around a bee farm. Originally a farmer, Harvey swapped his farm equipment for nine thriving bee colonies in 1985 and has enjoyed beekeeping ever since. The colonies have only grown over the years, and he managed as many as 300 colonies at a time in both Onondaga and Madison County!

As a self-taught professional, he nurtured 100 colonies in his final years. From collecting product from the hive to cutting and capping off the honey, extracting, preparing it to be bottled, physical bottling each drop...so much work goes into creating a jar before it actually even gets to the Market. While Harvey started out doing everything by himself, his business grew to three additional employees who're tasked with the all it takes to create that golden final product.

Having a deep love for the bees, Harvey kept it “old school". He didn’t feed them high fructose corn syrup, medicate them, or give them any antibiotics. He also didn’t heat their honey which preserves the flavor of the flower and keeps the product raw. He was most famous for his honey sticks as there's over a dozen flavors and also specializes in propolis, bee pollen, beeswax and honeycomb.
