Meet Jodi Fowler-Downs, a 6th generation farmer of Fowler Farms. Every generation has contributed to the farm in their own way. The earliest she can remember is her great grandfather, Leonard Fowler, who would sell their family's homegrown produce by traveling to local stores and in later years, vending at the local farmers markets.
Leonard's son and Jodi's father, William Fowler, went on to expand the farm by adding a nursery where the fam could grow beautiful flowers and hearty bedding plants during the Spring and Summer months. As Jodi grew up, she joined @national4h which is a cooperative extension and community of more than 100 public universities across the nation that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. At 4-H she learned two incredibly valuable skills--how to bake and how to can produce. Jodi’s grandparents suggested she sell some of her delicious treats at the family's farm stand and soon after customers started asking for more. Growing up with an abundance of produce at her fingertips, she was taught to never to waste anything and today considers such values when baking. Customers knew Jodi was creating these desserts herself and with fresh, local ingredients. Of course they couldn’t stay away.
“Most of my recipes came from my great grandma. All my canned goods and baked goods come from local farms, and are hand picked by myself so there is a lot of love that goes into them. It is so important to shop at the farmers market because you are supporting local families. Without farmers you wouldn’t have food on your table and the reason why you see so many longtime vendors and farmers at the market is because we love what we do. Aside from carrying a variety of bedding plants, produce, wreaths, they also offer an amazing array of cookies and pies.
