@oldhomedistillers will surely lift your SPIRITS. A family-owned distillery in Lebanon, NY, their team utilizes 100% NY-grown grain and distills their own whiskeys, gins and other specialty spirits. Two generations of the Carvell family work tirelessly to bring these high-quality products to the Market each week. While Adam and his brother Aaron are co-operators and distillers, their parents Gerald and Marlene Carvell round out the operations as CEO and CFO, respectively, and also serve as part of the sales team. Adam explained each family member's commitment to their customers. “We’re really focused on getting people to try new things and getting customers the right product for their preferences. Farmers’ market customers can run the gamut from connoisseur to absolute novice, and that’s ok.
It’s WHISKEY business starting your own distillery as it's one of the only trades you can’t legally practice on your own before going pro. So, when Jerry and Marlene Carvell, founders of @oldhomedistillers established their family-owned and operated business, they took quite the leap of faith and committed themselves to producing a small batch of hand-crafted spirits featuring locally-grown ingredients. Today, three generations of the family share the same passion for fine spirits. Between there two sons, daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren, we'd say launching such a legacy was certainly worth a SHOT 🥃
Starting around 5am, the family is up and their day begins with distillations followed by a morning of mashing grain, straining their fermentations or bottling runs with afternoons spent on account sales, deliveries, tasting room sales, and customer tours. Distillations typically wraps up around 4pm. Then it's time to hit the road for evening markets, more deliveries and tasting events.
Son of Jerry and Marlene, Adam shared his appreciation for connecting with customers at the Market. “Farmers’ markets are the most direct way for consumers to access fresh local produce and handcrafted goods from small businesses such as Old Home, which may not have the robust distribution relationships enjoyed by larger, more mainstream companies. It’s a fun, interactive way to shop – you often get to meet the actual maker and discuss the products. You can’t do that at the supermarket!”
